I’m sure many pneumonia deaths are listed in those stats
Excess deaths are caused by overcapacity hospitals turning away sick patients, which was already a problem before COVID-19.
Similar trend also seen in US, Europe, Australia and NZ for 2022. Japan definitely had COVID underreporting, but that was mostly in 2020 and 2021 when testing wasn’t accessible. Almost anyone could get a PCR test in 2022. Considering the different approaches taken (lockdowns, masking, etc.) with all these countries it makes one think what is really going on here.
