I thought I’d do the same for Sendai this time.
Here are some places I’ve been to and recommend:

\- [Matsushima](https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5100.html) (Definitely go here for the small little islands. To be honest…the view is not as amazing as say Ha Long Bay, Phi Phi Islands…but that’s just my opinion)
\- [Mitsui Outlet Park](https://mitsui-shopping-park.com/mop/kisarazu/english/) (Great place to buy discounted items! Well known brands are here.)
\- [Tomizawa Site Museum](http://www.sendai-c.ed.jp/~bunkazai/~chiteinomori/english/) (The only museum in the world to perserve a 20,000 forest! Doesn’t have much stuff translated in English)
\- Cris Road (Nothing amazing, decent place to do regular shopping)
\- Zunda Shake (Not really a place, but I’m addicted to drinking this! Yum!)

This makes me want to go back to Sendai. I’ve been to the first two gyutan places would recommend either. (Or go to both!)
One thing I want to warn people about in sendai is to reconsider checking out the big budda statue. It is kinda impressive but I don’t think it’s worth the effort to get there and it is not that well kept imo.
I recommend Shiogama Fish Wholesale Market if you want to have a very fresh sashimi bowl. You can walk around the market and buy the pre-prepared sashimi cuts from the various vendors, then go to the canteen where you can buy the sashimi bowl set which includes the rice and a bowl of miso soup. You then assemble the bowl yourself, so it’s very customisable.
Being able to speak some Japanese would help but using Google translate would work as well. The vendors were super friendly and helpful. You can walk to the market from Higashi-Shiogama station which is on the same train line as Matsushimakaigan station. I think they only do the sashimi bowls in the morning so I’d recommend doing it for breakfast before going to Matsushima Bay.
Take the train to Omoshiroyama-kogen, cross the bridge and hike down in the gorge to Toka Falls.
A hidden and overgrown trail leads you next to the most beautiful river hikes that you could ever take. I almost didn’t want to share this one because it’s so secret.
Do get here you have to take a local train that stops at every station.
I’ve been to Akiu Falls and would definitely recommend it. The area is so pretty and peaceful, but be prepared for some steep hiking if you want to go to the bottom of the waterfall.

I always think about Chris Broad when I hear about Sendai. If I ever visit, I expect a Chris Broad sighting.
Train station gyutan place fuckin slaps, would definitely recommend
