I’ve been searching the posts but there’s a lot of conflicting information.
I’m moving to a new apartment so I’m shopping for an ISP.
I don’t think the area has fibre because I keep seeing VDSL ( don’t speak Japanese yet so Google literally is my friend right now)
The housing office recommended Jcom but they don’t seem to be good. I’d like fast speeds and a reliable connection.
I have a SoftBank data sim for my phone at the moment ( I’m also in the market for a new iPhone and contract). Any recommendations based on experience?
So far I’ve gotten a lot of recommendations but those people aren’t actually using the companies they recommend 🤷🏽♀️
“X has a special at the moment “.
I’m not looking for “specials” but real experience with a particular company.
Please and thank you.

it sounds like you are able to get flets Hikari vdsl type in your location. these days the provider doesn’t really matter as long as you enable IPv6 and connect with IPoE and not pppoe. you could go with soft bank and get some discount for using their mobile line and internet at the same time, but SoftBank requires renting 500 yen a month BBUnit router in order to take advantage of the IPv6 connection. might be not worth it.
since you said you are not very good in Japanese you should just get asahi net with flets and have them set up the line as well. you’ll need a router supporting v6connect. details on the wiki https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/wiki/internet/
Depends on your apartment building.
