Yes, you can, at MOST toll gates. Smaller countryside roads/private roads often do not accept cards.

You absolutely should get an ETC machine if you own a car. It will pay for itself in a handful of trips.
Be careful, some smaller toll gates are ETC only.
ETC would be the easiest in toll paying, but getting one would require some work. I’m not sure how hard it is for foreigner to get one tied to their bank.
