I’ll be taking my two kids to visit relatives in the UK this year, and the current similar thread about US dual nationals made me think I should check a couple of things.
They’ll be traveling on their Japanese passport, so there will be no Uk passport to show, but if they did have a UK passport, would they be required to show the UK passport when entering the UK? And if so, is the lack of one going to be a problem?
Side question, anyone ever tried to make a passport for their kids during a visit to the UK?

Your kids going in and out on a Japanese passport will not be a problem at all, they’ll just have to go through immigration in the “dirty Jonny foreigner” line with your partner. You can join them too on your UK passport if you so wish.
If they had a uk passport you wouldn’t need to declare it. Use it or not. No one cares.
When I’ve travelled with my kids (me on UK passport, them on JP passports) I always stop and make a point of asking a staff member at the airport. Sometimes they let the kids join me in the UK holder queue, sometimes they ask me to join the other queue.
I’ve taken my child to the UK on a Japanese passport. Just the two of us.
No problems, and we didn’t have to use the ‘Johnny Foreigner’ line we just couldn’t use the e-gates or whatever they’re called.
