How to have JP subtitles alongside ENG subtitles in Crunchyroll?

crunchyroll doesn’t have japanese sub. so i download subtitles from kitsunekko.

but i dont know of theres a program or chrome extension that will let me play my downloaded japanese subtitles next to the english ones crunchyroll has? both at the same time, like how animelon does.

sorry if this is a basic question. does anyone know if i can do that?

  1. Anacreon DJT website shows you some options to syncing subs to anime, although you might have to use like ummmmmmm idk my brain isn’t remembering it because I never used it. But check that website

Also you need to listen a lot without subtitles

  2. Maybe use mpv player it’s good, it plays the video with both English and Japanese subs but you have to download both of them locally on.your pc. Maybe if you want you could try asb player if that it compatible with crunchy roll. I would almost recommend tho to download it, because you can then after watching it with subtitles, listen to it a second time so your brain can figure more words out.

  3. okay i figured something out. i’ll post the process i went through here if anyone’s wondering:

i used [savethevideo.com](https://savethevideo.com) to download the crunchyroll episode (mp4) and english subtitles (txt). any video saver would probably work or if you already have an anime file or disk.

i used [kitsunekko](https://kitsunekko.net/dirlist.php?dir=subtitles%2Fjapanese%2F) to download jp subtitles for the episode (srt)

i downloaded [Potplayer](https://potplayer.daum.net/) program and loaded the video and two subtitle files in. (for subtitles right click -> subtitles -> add subtile -> load subtitle then after the first language add “2nd subtitle”)

if one of the subtitles are out of sync, use [Subtitle Edit](https://www.videohelp.com/software/Subtitle-Edit) to adjust all start times simultaneously. you can do this without the video or you can use mpv to play video as you adjust subtitles. when it’s right, resave the srt file and reload it into Potplayer.

the cool thing about Potplayer is you can click on the japanese subtitle and route it directly to a translator, copy to clipboard, or google it just by clicking! very handy for quick lookup!

now i can watch both japanese and english subtitles on the anime at the same time. i think the first episode took a lot of time but now that i know what to do it should be swifter. hopefully this comment is more contribution to someone than the original post.

  4. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but you’ll learn 0 Japanese with english subtitles. Our minds are lazy and will follow the path of least resistance. You will block out the Japanese subtitles over time. Please stick to Japanese sub and dub if you want to have Japanese input. 頑張ってください

  5. Try LanguageReactor plug-in. It works for youtube, netflix etc… it allows multiple subtitles and I’ve found it to be a very useful tool.

  6. Kinda cool that the OP both asked the question and then answered it thoroughly themselves. Saving this post for later use.
