Hello everyone, i’m new to learning japanese and i’m following a N5 anki deck, and i saw もう少しゆっくり話ください. I’m wondering why it isn’t just 少しゆっくり話ください and would those be different ? From what i understand, the first would mean “Please speak a little more slowly” and the other would be “Please speak a little slower” or something like that. Idk how it’s different tho.

もう少し is more like “a little more”. It softens it a bit. It sounds like the difference between saying “Please speak slowly” vs “Could you speak a little more slowly?”
It has to be もう少し there. もう is adding the sense of “more”. You use it with quantities to express more of that quantity. もう一つ (もうひとつ) = one more. もう一回 (もういっかい) = one more time.
If only “少し”, it means “a little” or “little”.
