Dassai is a safe bet as a present for someone else, but for yourself it is probably best to try a lot of different types of sake and see what kind you like the best. Also, it would probably be good to give more business to smaller, less-known makers.

If you can try a few versions – the lower the number, the higher the quality but tastes preference will come from you.
