Hi guys! I will be traveling from Osaka to Tokyo on May 17. Do you guys think that we still need to buy a reserved seating even though it’s days after golden week?
It’s a Wednesday with nothing special… you could likely arrive on the very day and still have a tickey for the train you want.
Unless you are tight on cash I would always buy reserved seating. Just for the peace of mind of being guaranteed a seat
By Shinkansen, bus, or plane, yes. By other kinds of trains, no.
You may be perfectly fine. I get grumpy when I don’t get a seat, so I just buy one straightaway and avoid any potential disappointment.
If you pick a train which starts in Osaka, and turn up sufficiently early so you’re at the front of the line on the platform for an unreserved car, you’re pretty much guaranteed a seat.
We always reserve seats in the green car because that has the lowest risk of screaming babies and unruly children.
It’s not much more for reserved, so I always do that to ensure a seat, especially when travelling with a family /group that wants to sit together as you can choose your seats. Avoid the more expensive green cars as they are rife with loud and obnoxious ojiisans.
