Shipping boxes

So I’m moving to Japan. Hopefully at the end of October.

I’m not taking much with me, so I didn’t think about this. But I have a big box of clothes and shoes, a computer tower and about 4 game consoles and one monitor I want to bring over. I don’t know why I thought that would fit on the plane.

What is the best way to ship big boxes that aren’t furniture. I was looking up that you could do it by cargo plane but it was crazy expensive. Then I read you can go by sea but you have to purchase a container.

Just looking for advice or help on shipping.

  2. You’re probably best off getting most of that into checked bags and having like 5 or 6 bags on the flight

  3. I don’t know your reasons but I wanna ask do you need the monitor right away? You could always buy one in Japan, so you don’t have to travel with it.

  4. I shipped via Yamato when moving to Japan and would recommend them but do remember it will be expensive. So you need to weigh up the cost of postage versus selling and rebuying in Japan. If you do go ahead, you will have an option of air or boat, boat will take between one to two months in my experience.
