Hello everyone, I am planning on taking the AP Japanese Test this coming May. I already speak the language quite decently so I really didn’t mind studying the language in particular except for practicing FRQs time to time. One thing that I am concerned thou is the typing(input) format that is used for the actual test. I currently use the google IME that basically, if u type s->a it changes it to さ. Is this what I would be using on the test or is the format different? If so could someone direct me to downloading the format used for the test so that I could get some practice in before taking the test? Thank you

If you’re asking whether you’d be expected to type using direct kana input (i.e., actually type “さ” as a single keystroke to get “さ”, as opposed to typing “sa”), then no. Japanese keyboards for use on desktop PCs still use rōmaji as the standard input method, which can be done using a standard North American QWERTY keyboard. If I had to guess, the IME would just be Microsoft’s native one, and the only thing that really changes is accuracy of typing names, which is a mess regardless.
The only reason to go with direct kana input for the test would be if they want to be dicks to the students and throw something completely unexpected at them.
You should be fine. I’d ask your teacher about particulars rather than people on the internet
The typing format for the AP Japanese exam is Microsoft IME. This is explicitly stated on the FRQs from past years.
