Internship in Japan with an overseas university

Hi, currently in my fourth semester and starting to think about internships. My university is overseas and offers internships in the country it’s in and in theory in companies abroad if the company accepts interns and can reach an agreement with the university. I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with getting an internship in a company in Japan (Japanese or non Japanese) while studying in an overseas university.

edit: just to clarify, I live in Japan and I’m doing an online degree in a non-Japanese uni. It’s a software engineering degree.

  1. There are some companies that help students get internships in Japan. One of my interns used that program and he was excellent!

Also, I know one Japanese tech startup works with U of Waterloo in Canada on internships, and there may be more.

    Good luck with your search!

  2. Not really my experience firsthand
But I have friend from Germany, was enrolled in university in Germany when doing internship in Japanese company as electrical engineer.
So yeah it’s possible if the Japanese company willing to sponsor you.
    Wish you luck
