Best anki decks for beginners ?

I got back to learning Japanese about a week ago, I am using Anki, the decks I’ve been using are:

“Japanese Core 2000 step 01listening sentence” + images and “Japanese Hiragana (Basic)”

I’ve actually almost mastered hiragana and can already read and write simple words sentences and I understand a lot of words and simple phrases and sentences.

I started using duolingo because a friend showed me an interesting “characters” section which helps learn hiragana and katakana

I’m studying for about 30 minutes to an hour a day, and I wanted to try and ramp it up a bit, so, what decks for anki would you recommend or what other free sources would you recommend me ?

Thanks in advance !

  1. I really like “Japanese like a breeze” (JLLAB), although it includes Romaji, it’s really nice to go through, contains useful words and real life examples (basically it’s a deck with words right from anime/Japanese shows.)
Similarly works the app “Umi”, there are short clips from videos with vocab, about three for every word.
You might also like ‘Renshuu”, there’s basically everything there and it’s very nice. Good alternative for duolingo :>>

  2. Prebuilt anki decks are ok, but in my personal opinion it makes words harder to memorize. If you have the patience, what I would suggest doing is immersion…even fresh out of learning kana….I went this route and I never regretted it..

what I did is since I’m a gamer I just played games…every word I didn’t understand I just created a new card with its definition and pronunciation…since I basically found that word I sort of already have context associated with it…because I sort of remember where I found it. This makes it easier to stick

of course, I played games…doesn’t mean you have to. Just find content you like….but content you can stop whenever you want to and come back to the exact point you left it…if you have patience this can take you a long way

Just thought I would throw this your way in case it helps you too 🙂
