Finding Groups to Join for my Cultural Study Visa?

I’ve been accepted for an internship in Japan (yayyyy) and will be leaving for Tokyo in September. I’ve been hosted by this company in the past, but this time I will actually be working with them while being hosted. One of the requirements for working with them is obtaining a Cultural Study Visa and I’m at a complete loss on how to write my proposal.

For reference, I’ve decided to study haiku for my project since I’ll already have a heavy work schedule in Japan and want to make things as easy on myself as possible. Part of writing a proposal for a Cultural Study Visa is explaining how and where you’ll be learning said skill- this is where I’m lost. I’m finding it very difficult to find clubs/classes located in Japan without actually being there. This kind of stuff is so much easier to find on local bulletins.

Does anyone have resources on finding specific clubs/groups/classes in Japan that do haiku? (Inside or outside of Tokyo is fine, I will be traveling around the islands anyways.) I’ve been researching online, but the pickings have been slim. (Maybe I’m not looking in the right places? Who knows.) Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

  2. I’m confused here.

You say you’ve been accepted for an internship already, but now you need to go off and find a different group entirely to sponsor you for a cultural activities visa? Why is this company not sponsoring you for a cultural activities visa (assuming the internship is unpaid) or a work visa (if the internship draws a salary)?

You’ve also decided to look into studying something easy because you’re concerned about the work load you’ll have for this company who are not sponsoring your visa?

This sounds pretty shady my dude.

  3. This is gonna sound harsh, but your statement is like saying, “My local Ferrari dealership is willing to sell me a car, they just said I need to come up with the money”.

The visa is the most important (and difficult) part. By the way, this sounds super shady.

  4. Are you saying that your employer is not going to offer you a visa and you have to get a cultural activities visa under a false premise from somewhere else?
