Unagi no seiromushi set at KIKOSUI, Yanagawa


Grilled freshwater eel over rice, steamed in a bamboo box. The set comes with steamed eel salad, pickled veggies, seafood egg custard, eel liver soup. The star of this meal was surprisingly the rice, enriched with the sweet savoury eel sauce and perfumed with the bamboo fragrance. One of my most memorable and favourite meals in Japan.

  1. I think there was an eel restaurant in Yanagawa called Wakamatsuya-san, and I’ve been there a few times.
