Hi all,
Just reposting something from Japanese Twitter. Someone apparently stayed at the APA Hotel at Kabukicho Tower and got bedbug bites all over them when they woke up.
One of the replies mentioned about receiving bedbug bites in late 2021 when they stayed at an Internet Cafe in the same area as well.
Just a friendly heads up. Be careful if you plan to stay in hotels in the area.

Just a note that this is just how travel works.
I don’t think it’s right to say Kabukicho specific. Ideally you should be checking no matter if you’re at the Ritz or in a hostel/capsule hotel. I’m sure the places mentioned have already DNR’d the rooms and took proper precautions to remove them once they were notified. Especially the one from 2021. They would NOT still be in business if they had nonstop bedbugs for 2 years. Hotels don’t want them either. Staff has to worry about bringing them home and they DO NOT want that. Most hotels don’t allow personal items on cleaning carts for this reason.
Every hotel on the planet has had bedbugs at some point during it’s run. Every. Hotel. It’s just life in the hotel industry. They don’t care about location or how “upscale” the place is. The bugs are just simple hitch hikers. Granted most nicer hotels probably catch it quicker, just know they’re not immune.
Oh and you can get them on planes too.
Safe travels
Also never put your open bag on the floor. Use the foldable stands if available
I always check here’s my process:
First put ur bags or luggage in bathtub
Turn on your flash light on your cellphone go to the bed take the sheet off and check the rims walk around the bed check every part of the rim of the bed.
Check the foot of the bed. Check all corners. Check headboard. Check drawers. Check the lights, under the lights. If there’s painting check behind the frame. Don’t put your luggage on the rack because they can be on the strap, so check first. When you get home, wash everything, and vacuum your luggage or bags and put everything in a plastic bag and store it so is not near your bed.
You just never know, better be safe than sorry!
Fuck just a few days ago I booked that hotel for a night I’ve to stay in Tokyo, now I have to cancel and check another hotel
Well APA is the Motel 6 of Japan and Kabukicho is the red light capital.
I stayed there for two nights a week ago and it was all good. No complaints from me.
Thanks for the warning! I’d rather not risk it.
I really appreciate warnings like this. I’m allergic to bedbugs and get huge welts that itch infernally for a couple of weeks even with the strongest prescription creams, never ever settling into any accommodation again without checking the room and bed. (I have never been bitten in Japan)
Wow I literally stayed at an APA hotel in Kabukicho a few weeks ago. There’s a bunch though so it wasn’t that one. No bedbugs were in mine, but that’s horrifying.
When I come home, all clothes goes in the wash and then dryer and all luggage stays in quarantine in my car for a couple of weeks. For every trip.
I’m currently staying at an apa hotel in kabukicho(not the tower), I have no complaints. Just note that there are multiple hotels with different numbers here as well mine was 323 I believe.
Travel enough, go to enough hotels, it will eventually happen. It’s just a reality of life. Only a couple of bed bug reports in a large populous area is actually pretty relieving.
I’m literally staying at that same hotel at the end of May. Im freaking out. I have a HUGE fear of bugs. I want to die right now, thinking about having to deal with his. I get that any hotel can have them. However I’ve traveled, a lot and never have encountered them. So this is a new experience for me. What do I do? Should I cancel my reservations and find somewhere else???
