Hello All! I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight if a JR rail pass would be worth it with my expected itinerary or if I should just buy the one way train tickets. If possible it would also be very helpful to list suggestions of what I could do instead. Keep in mind I would not be going back from Osaka back to Tokyo. Thank you in advanced!
Tokyo to Kyoto
Kyoto to Osaka

It looks like it takes quite a bit of traveling to make the rail pass pay off. Here is a handy calculator: https://www.japan-guide.com/railpass
For just Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka it’s not worth it and you’re better off buying individual tickets.
It’s not worth it. You could buy the Nozomi oneway (fastest train) and ride a regular train or even a non-Jr line down to Osaka and still save money. There’s a lot of non-JR lines in Kansai. Depending on where you’re staying, the Keihan line goes down to Osaka and is cheap.
If you are not able/willing to spend 2 minutes of your time to figure this (checking train fare at Google Maps/Navitime/Hyperdia and comparing to JRP price), you are going to have a hard time in Japan…
Anyway, no, pass for unlimited travel for 1 week is not cheaper than 3-hour + 0.5 hour trip.
