I think it would be very helpful if i understood the language to a decent level, speaking, reading and writing. What helpful learning tools did you guys use? I know my hiragana and katakana already but not sure where to go from there. Any links appreciated. 😊

Reading the beginners guide on here. Or ask a search engine on how to learn Japanese.
I started by reading the tofugu hiragana and katakana guide, you can google them using those keywords.
Then I used Tae Kim’s grammar guide, free pdf online that covers a lot of fundamental grammar from N5 to N3.
I learned kanji and vocab through wanikani but last time I checked their plugins were weird, not sure if that’s still the case since I finished it a long time ago. You can use basic anki decks for free or maybe even duolingo, whatever gets you started.
This is just what I did, not the best route to take by any means but it worked for me.
