させてもらう sentence confusion

Hey guys, right now I’m preparing for the N3 exam and doing some practice work from my teacher. There is this one sentence that says “手にケガをしたので、母にご飯を食べさせてもらった”. There’s a picture of the mother feeding food to her son, so I’m guessing it means “I have an injury on my hand, so my mother is fed me food” but I thought させてもらう/くれる was for receiving permission from someone or expressing gratitude? I know it’s probably simple but my brain wants to say it’s “my mother let me eat rice”. Does it have to do with the particle に?if someone could help me understand I’d really appreciate it!
