Review on Japanese water toothpick ( oral cleaning device)

Have you ever bought this device in Japan? Is it that good and can replace floss ? If it does, which brand should I go for?
Thank you!

  1. I bought a Chinese cheaper one on Amazon JP.

Worked fine I think? Until the tank started leaking after 2 weeks so now I have to clean it out and dry it every time I use it which is kind of a bother. There’s one spot in my mouth where it makes my gum bleed but I think that’s a gum issue.

It does remove some stuff though for sure.

  2. Bought a Chinese one from Amazon Japan and used it only a few times. I’d rather use floss than water floss which hurts my gums and teeth everytime I use it. There’s no way to control water pressure and I feel it’s too strong.

  3. I had a waterpik once, it vibrated excessively and was worse than floss.

Dentists always recommend floss above all else for anyone who can use it. Nothing beats actually scrubbing your teeth deep into your gums. Liquid can’t break down plaque very well.

You can buy floss on a plastic stick here that gives you way more leverage. I highly recommend it.

  4. Sure wish my boss would use one. But he would need neat bleach instead of water, since his mouth smells like someone took a shit in it after a night of heavy drinking and kebabs….about a year ago.

  5. I bought a cheap plastic manual one on Amazon, you could try that first to see if you like it? It just looks like a syringe.
I use it to get rid of tonsil stones and it works well!

  6. Many of the cheaper ones on Amazon can be found on AliExpress for even cheaper. Pick one up and try it out.
I have never used them, but also thought they looked interesting.

I would also recommend the small interdental brushes, they have a few different names but get they come in many different sizes for about ¥200 a pack. You poke it inbetween the tooth and gum. They work really well.

They won’t replace flossing but will help suppliment it and get a lot of places that floss alone might miss (as almost no-one flosses as well as they should, me included.)

Oh, get the tiny brushes not the rubber brush-like things, they are apparently not very good. Daiso has them for 100yen if you are not willing to go all in for the good ones! They are not bad at all, but you only get 5 in a pack.

  7. It can be useful if you’re at risk of periodontal disease. Otherwise, for the average consumer it’s maybe not necessary.
