Kanji or hiragana?

Hello, I am interested in getting a tattoo for ikigai. I am most familiar with hiragana so I would really like to have it written mostly in hiragana. On google, the translation that comes up is this:
いきがい
But if I search images, there is more kanji involved in most of them. I just want to make sure that the tattoo is somewhat authentic. Is it ok to have it written like this above, mostly in hiragana?
Would this one be more appropriate:
生きがい

  1. You could get 生甲斐 or 生き甲斐 as well.

Try to include this has part of a larger piece of art so it does not seem so awkward.

  2. You could write it that way, yes. I think kanji looks the best from a purely aesthetic view though.

  3. Be forewarned that ‘ikigai’ is only as deep a concept as ‘purpose in life’ is, and the extra baggage was added after import, just like kaizen
