Do I need to include my wife’s tax documents? Applying for PR

I’ve collected and prepared all the documents listed on the official MOJ website: https://www.moj.go.jp/isa/applications/procedures/zairyu_eijyu01.html

However, in this thread people recommended to also submit spouse’s tax, pension and insurance documents: https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/comments/uh6isb/documents_needed_for_permanent_residence/

Should I just follow the immigration website or include those extra documents as well?

  1. Immigration sent me a request for additional information which included my wife’s その3 form, so I’d say it’s better to include your wife’s documents.

  2. When applying via the spousal route, your spouse is *typically* your guarantor.

You’re required to submit your guarantor’s proof of earnings, which subsequently also means tax payments too.

So yea…. I’d say you need to include them.

Could also be worth including your spouse’s proof of pension and health insurance payments too. I’ve heard people in this sub getting rejected because their sponsoring spouse missed a pension payment etc

  3. Is your wife your guarantor? If yes, then you probably need to include them. Otherwise no.

  4. You should go to the immigration office and ask them to provide you with a list of the documents that you need in your specific situation.

In my case, they gave me a printed list of all possible necessary documents and highlighted the ones I needed and crossed off the ones I didn’t need. This way, when you bring all of the documents there can be no mistake. Just submit it all with the highlighted paper. Then there can be no contention or misunderstandings.
