I’m trying to read a book about art, so the naturally, there will be words that I don’t understand. Heck, I started studying N4, so it’s not like I’ll understand a lot, but this way of studying seems fun, so why not?
I’m on pc though, so I’m not sure how to go about this. How do you usually go check the definition of the characters you don’t know? Do you just use an OCR app?

you can use sugoitranslator which is pretty much designed for visual novels. It does have a manga and visual novel OCR translation mode in it, where it will Screencap the screen and then translate it. You use that along with yomichan to essentialy get what you’re looking for. It takes a bit to get it set up, but it woks
this is how it works for a visual novel, but I figure it should work for any handwritten images on a picture

i use google translate’s image-to-text feature and get the characters from there from screenshots/photos from my phone (second button on top of input text box)
I use [manga-ocr](https://github.com/kha-white/manga-ocr) on pc
On Android I use [yomiwa](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yomiwa.yomiwa) that allows me to get words from camera, image files including screenshots, handwriting
I use and strongly recommend Kanjitomo. (get an older version, since the OCR got worse in the last major one)
Google translate or google lens. They both have image-to-text feature but sadly not on PC.
