Predecessor Appreciation Post

We’ve all read the occasional accounts of preds scamming their successors, leaving behind extremely dirty apartments, leaving behind terrible reputations etc. A lot of us (me included) were lucky enough to have a pred that was the opposite.

My pred has been so helpful, going out of their way, in what must be a very busy time for them as well, to help make my move as smooth as possible. I can’t imagine what I would do without all the help and advice they’ve given me.

  1. I know one JET participant who inherited a bunch of stuff left in the closets including a bunch of anime goods and a huge stack of nudie mags. He made a pretty penny selling some of the stuff online.

  2. Sadly I never spoke to my predecessor but they left the apartment really tidy. I was so thankful they left bug spray, as on the first night a hornet intruded and I was about to give the apartment up to it 😂🐝

  3. My pred left me a 14 page document explaining everything about my area, BoE, teachers, JTE, recommendations for shops, restaurants. Even budgeting tips for summer and winter! He is the best pred I could’ve ever asked for.

  4. My pred wanted nothing to do with me, but he answered my many questions and connected me with my former co-ALT. He’s a lawyer now and I wish him well

  5. My pred decided to stay in Japan post-JET. Together with the other new ALT, we formed a pretty tight friend group. Since we aren’t allowed to get a car in our district if we work for JET, pred has been driving us to places. Also wrote a 80+ page guide to help us assimilate(Still haven’t read the whole thing).

    Big up J.

  6. My pred fought for me and another JET to live in modern housing. He (my pred) is a great person (kindhearted, funny, smart…), one of the few decent JETs in our area. We still talk to each other from time to time.

Hello everyone. I applied last year, didn’t make it in. Would any current or past JETs be willing…
