Certificate of the Termination of Social Insurance(社会保険資格喪失証明書)

The company I’m leaving informed me they will send this to me. Like a lot of things about changing jobs and moving in japan this is yet another new one.

My old job finishes at the start of June and my new one starts at the beginning of July. Obviously this means I won’t be covered by company health insurance and pension during this time and I had planned to re-enroll when I submit my move in documents (and move out certificate) at the ward office near my new place. But it seems I won’t get the certificate until after they terminate the old health insurance which means I won’t have it by the time I come to submit my move in certificate at the new ward office.

So my question is can I submit my move in certificate at the ward office and then come back later and sign up for HI and pension? Or do I have to do it all at once and hope they send it to me before the 14 days time limit is up.

Sorry for the wall of text but trying to cover all bases is driving me crazy.

  1. If the documents are late, you’ll just sign up and pay retroactively. If you have to go to the hospital in the meanwhile, you have to pay the full amount but can go back to get a refund once you have your new health card.

  2. It’s okay to be late as long as you explain things. You can sign up early even while having some docs still missing
