Hi, beginner here and this is my first post here. Today I have studied 土曜日 (どようび) and after a quick search I have found out that almost every day of the week is associate with an element. Is there a story behind these kanji?
The days of the week are named after the planets, same as in English for some of them, and other European languages, so for example
土星 – Saturn
土曜日 – Saturday
And the names of the planets come from Chinese
It’s based on the Roman calendar, same as it is in English, and then got passed along to China and Japan. “The Chinese had apparently adopted the seven-day week from the Hellenistic system by the 4th century CE… The Chinese transliteration of the planetary system was soon brought to Japan.. as early as 1007” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_the_days_of_the_week
My native language also has a system of naming days of the week after planets so I assumed it’s something similar.
i collected some interesting connections across other languages as well

The Japanese days of the week are based off of the old Chinese System for the “7 Luminaries”
