Hello everyone, so I have been studying Japanese for a couple months now. I am using the Genki series books and was wondering when you decided to move on to Genki 2. I don’t remember all the vocabulary from each chapter or all the grammar points. Did you guys move on to Genki 2 after you mastered all the vocabulary and grammar or did move on knowing most of it? I know about 80% of all the grammar and vocabulary, if I move on now will it be difficult to keep up in Genki 2?
I am currently on Chapter 12 btw. I have also completed the kanji sections up to chapter 10.

Complete the last chapter of Genki 1 and move on to the first chapter of Genki 2 at the same pace as you would any other two chapters. Everything in Genki is basic and you will reinforce it all the more you interact with Japanese.
Never. I half-assed Genki 1 and then went on an Anki bender to memorize the 2k most common words plus kanji. After that it was off to the races with native media and I never looked back.
When you finish Chapter 12. Do all the readings too.
I did all of genki 1 including kanji, workbook, and exercises
I didn’t memorize every vocab or anything but I moved on from chapter to chapter when I could comfortably understand everything in the dialogues without help.
After I’d burned all the copies I could find of Genki 1.
AJATT is the way my friend.
