Rakuten Hikari speeds with ASUS router

I have Rakuten Hikari and an ASUS RT-AC85U router. Even though the router is not on their supported list and does not have a DS-Lite option in the IPv6 settings, I used an IPv6 setting called “FLET’s IPv6 service” along with the usual ID/password PPPoE setting under the WAN settings.

However, I can only get a maximum of about 90 Mbps, which is rare. It’s usually around 25 Mbps. If I bought a router on the supported list, do you think I’d get better speeds? Or does the “FLET’s IPv6 service” setting do the same thing as the “DS-Lite” setting?

By the way, the router connects directly into the Ethernet jack in the apartment wall. The installation guy said I didn’t need a modem.

  1. Yes Asus doesn’t support the option you’ve chosen (crosspass) in fact it’s always better to avoid overseas model with high speed Japanese providers until at least Asus catch up.

You could use Asus behind the Japanese router. But requires somewhat advanced configuration ( not difficult )

You should get one on their list . Probably there are Buffalos.

If you’re getting a max of 90 Mbps then it sounds more like your problem is the ethernet cables in your walls are capped at 100 Mbps. Unless your residence was built very recently, the cables are probably just standard 100BASE-T, so no matter what provider/router you use, you speed will be capped there. Look into getting a fiber line directly to your modem/router (the “construction” that most hikari providers talk about).
