Is it possible to do a study abroad at Waseda University without going through my university in the US? My school doesn’t offer Waseda university as a study abroad option. I want to find a study abroad program with a university and not with a language school school. Does anyone have any experience in this area?

That depends on your university, probably! Does your university have a study abroad center/office? If so you should talk to them and ask how you could make that work
In general, if you are looking for an exchange program (where you remain enrolled at your home university and earn credits at the Japanese university towards your graduation there), you are restricted to the schools your home university has an agreement with. That’s because the universities have already hammered out an agreement about admissions, types of classes available, etc.
That said, I know Waseda used to have a summer language program that was open to other students, run through Portland State University I believe. You did not need to be a student of Portland State to participate. No idea if that is still running.
