What are your dictionary recommendations?

Hello! I’ve been thinking about buying a physical English-Japanese dictionary, but I don’t know which one I should get. I’m looking for:

• A wide variety of words, especially ones I could use in day-to-day conversations

• (preferrably) English to Japanese **and** Japanese to English

• (preferrably) On-yomi and kun-yomi of Kanji

If one doesn’t exist with the preferences I listed, that’s okay! Just let me know your best reccomendations!

ありがとうごさいます!

  1. You want a PHYSICAL dictonary? They are in about every way inferior to a digital one, so I am not sure why someone would waste their money and time on a physical dictonary. Also are you after a Kanji dictonary or vocab? It seems like you want both but there probably won’t be a billingual dictonary covering both in detail. Also I don’t get why you would try to translate English to Japanese, the other way around is fine in my opinion, but going from English will just lead to thinking in English concepts and trying to search for the Japanese equiavelnt which will fail more often than not. I am not trying to talk you out of buying a dictonary but I am just generally curious what it is you’re trying to accomplish by doing this.

  2. Get a electronic dictionary, if what you need is something you can use without modern electronics and/or internet. 電子辞書, if you need a better keyword to search.
Pretty much any decent ones will have what you need.
