When to expect residency tax bill for Yokohama residence

Hello, it’s my first year here in Japan. I live near Yokohama. When should I expect my residency tax to delivered to my mail? (I am a contractor so I handle all my taxes).

I’ll need to pay this before renewing my visa in August so I was wondering when I can receive the bill?

Thank you

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. Ask at the ward office by the stadium?

I’m a dependent so I’m not super well versed in it but if I’m remembering correctly lump sum is done in June. But you can also pay in installments.

  3. You will receive the residence tax bill for 2022 in June 2023 or later. 2023s bill will be in June 2024 or later. Might be right in the beginning of June but some ward offices take their time and send it as late as August.

It’s quite possible there’s some scenario I’m not aware of that would require this, but I’ve certainly not heard of it before. Normally, you’d only be required to pay anything you owed up until that point, so the first few instalments should be enough. You always have the option of taking the lump sum route if you really want to though, I guess.

  5. Not related to OP. But I have a question. What is this residency tax OP is talking about? I have never paid any bills regarding to that and I have lived in Japan for over 5 years. 4 years of that were my university days and I recently got a job this year. Is residency tax something you pay after you start working ?
