Anyone feels like it’s hard to recall words in your native language to Japanese compared to the other way?

I recently started studying and I feel like it’s hard to recall words in English, but if I read a word in Japanese that I have been studying, it’s 10x easier.

  1. Output being harder than input is a common thing with learning a language. Don’t worry about it too much.

  2. If you’ve been studying Japanese -> English then that’s the direction of the association. It’s going to be easier to recall in that order. The English translation should only be considered as a temporary guide to the meaning when learning Japanese.

Ultimately, unless you plan to be a translator, you don’t really want to be able to convert English to Japanese, or vice-versa – you want to **think** **in** Japanese.
