I interviewed with them, and did not get a good feeling. My interviewers looked exhausted and alluded to the expectation of lots of mandatory overtime.
Maybe it was just the role I was applying for though.
I don’t work there, but a quick google of the company seems they really push for employees to work a lot of overtime etc. I mean Glassdoor has a post about excessive overtime, their own software engineering blog even has a post talking about how “working overtime doesnt feel like overtime as its a great environment” which honestly sounds like the company telling staff they have to spin overtime in a positive way.
Equally previous reddit threads have had quite a lot of complaints about long hours required so it kinda seems like a lot of people are in agreement that you would be working a lot of overtime lol
Edit: Actually looking on glassdoor paints a worse picture lol, of the most recent 10 reviews.. 9 mention poor-work life balance, or long working hours or lots of overtime as a negative.. feels like 9 out of 10 saying it likely arent wrong
Anecdotally, I had a job offer at a startup in Tokyo from May 2020 till Nov 2021 before I ended up cancelling for a better offer back home. I did see one of the people at that startup leave to go to PayPay, and then 6 months later they were back at the startup lol. I never asked them about it but it leads me to believe something was seriously wrong there.
PayPay have been really aggressive with their business here in Japan. They have been dumping so much money and opening so many business/product in order to capture the entire market. In just 2-3 years, they have become a giant in Japan. Nowadays it’s hard to go 5 minutes without seeing the word “PayPay”.
With that level of expansion, you can expect a lot of chaos, overtime and managerial issues.
