Firstly I’d like to say I’m not an asshole. I’ve been a great employee all my life, to the point I sacrificed my health and relationships for the good of the company, but I’m fed up with being a doormat, so, yes, I’m looking for loopholes if that’s what it takes.
I’m due to sign a new work contract later this week that isn’t exactly what was agreed upon in the interview, but I need it to renew my visa (I’m not looking for info on other visa options, only for info regarding this particular case). The terms are yearly contract, pay for hours worked only, no specified hours or termination clauses included in the contract.
I’m considering signing but quitting to ‘freelance’ (I know it’s not exact what it is) for other companies, but a labour consultation hotline I called said the employer could force me to finish out the contract. In case that happens, there’s one clause I think could get me off the hook: if I don’t go to work due to ‘personal reasons’ then I don’t get paid. So technically I could tell them I’m unable to go to work every working day due to ‘personal reasons’ for the rest of my contract, no? Nothing forbids me from having other jobs, right?
Also, if I end up quitting and start ‘freelancing’, is it correct that all I’d need to do is inform immigration online that I have a new employer and use the name of my main new employer? Or would I need to go to immigration in person with the new contracts?
Arigato for your collective wisdom!

1. Noone can force you to work. What they can do is sue for damages but since there aren’t any that’s irrelevant.
2. You need to notify immigration within 2 weeks of any change to your work status. I believe there is an online option now. You would report whoever is your main employer once you have a contract.
Lol that hotline consultant was a buffoon, serfdom is long gone
