It definitely not fashion, I’ve had two blue collar jobs and 80% of my coworkers have had janky long finger nails. On the train I notice it often as well and I would like to know if there is a reason.
I guess because most people don’t really give a damn about how long their nails are
Coke nail. Yes, I need 10 of them.
Good to open strong zero
I think it’s a way of showing they don’t finger bang their girlfriend or wife, if they have any.
I noticed it too. Along with men keeping the pinky finger longer. I dont get it.
They grow them out so that they can cut it at the workplace and gross out the people around them.
Pry and digging tool. Works as guitar pick too.
I wonder too and don’t know, but my husband has been complimented by Japanese women specifically for having clean and well-trimmed fingernails “compared to Japanese men”
I doubt it is intentional/fashion, just Japanese culture don’t care about them.
Japanse women are vocal about how they are grossed out by body hairs and beared but don’t care about finger nails, while in india beared is seen as sexy/manly.
If you keep your fingernails short, you are seen as a playa.
Japanese women have commented on my fingernails if they even get slightly long, so I doubt the validity of this.
>Why?
#NOSE-PICKING.
Not sure if this applies to Japan. It probably doesn’t. But I noticed a similar trend in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. I asked a Cambodian guy about it and he said it’s a way of showing that the person in question does not do manual labour.
I can’t believe no one knows the answer!!
I don’t know why in particular, but many of my (university aged) male students sport long, uneven fingernails. Like on all nails! So gross! Long nails on women are also kind of gross and unhygienic, IMO.
I’m not sure it’s just fashion. Some of the men in my university classes also wear make up, but they don’t all have long nails 🤷🏻♀️
Not just men, kids too. When mine was in elementary school, the school newsletters constantly asked moms to cut their kids’ nails.
Makes it easier to crack open a Strong Zero.
I’ve actually see one guy cutting them ON THE TRAIN. With 2 people sitting nexto him.
I’m a man and I have long-ish fingernails because I always forget to cut them down and remember in the train or at work where I can’t cut them.
If it is on the pinky and/or it is well maintained (e.g. shaped, polished etc) it is for paperwork. You can count piles of paper faster. Getting rarer, but still can be seen
