Indeed Recruitment Spam on WhatsApp

I couldn’t find one on Japan but this post from r/asksingapore is pretty much what happened to me:

Weird WhatsApp interviews & sudden influx of Indeed messages from ‘recruiters’
by u/pupluv83 in askSingapore

Basically, dodgy Japanese sounding names asking for my details so they can recruit me for suspiciously high paying WFH jobs. Of course they got blocked/reported into oblivion, but the scary thing is how they got my number in the first place….

  1. What’s scary about it? Did the message have your actual name?

Most spam messages are just spray and pray, they’ll just go through the list 080-0000-0001, 080-0000-0002, etc and hope someone bites

  2. I got one in English few days ago. Was surprised because I closed/deleted my info on Indeed years ago.

  3. Got one too and entertained the recruiter for a while. It was basically attracting people saying “we have many jobs offering a salaries of up to 10M yen” and, in the end, they show lots of baito for 1000/h.

Just block and ignore. Regular spam.

  4. WhatsApp spam bots are becoming/have become all too common all over the world, not just here. People in my home country have been talking about it for a couple months at least.

Best thing to do if you get unsolicited messages from a number you don’t recognize (or any suspicious number for that matter) is to just block it and move on. Educate your elders where applicable as well, as some of them might be more susceptible/gullible.
