Thoughts on my itinerary for 17 days Yokohama/Hakone/Ito/Nikko/Tokyo?

Hi all,

I’m planning a 17 day trip this October and staying near(ish) Tokyo. It’ll be my 5th trip to Japan, so I’m used to getting around, although it’ll be the first time I’m visiting solo.

**Main interests:** sightseeing (mainly nature, temples and interesting architecture), hiking, eating a lot.

I’m not against dropping or switching things entirely, even last minute.

**I’m mainly looking into advice/thoughts on the feasability of my trip and for recommendations, especially for things to do around Ito.**

**Hiking suggestions in any of the locations are also very much appreciated.**

**Yokohama: day 1-5**

Day 1: land in Narita around 8:30 am, make my way to Yokohama, check-in to hotel, spend whatever remains from the day exploring the area round the hotel and just recovering from the flight.

Day 2: explore Yokohama, Sankei-en garden, Shin-Yokohama ramen museum.

Day 3: Kamakura & enoshima.

Day 4: Hiking. For now I’ve got Mt Takao or Mt Oyama in mind, but other suggestions are appreciated.

Day 5: Take train to Hakone.

**Extra:** go to Chinatown and wander around Yokohama for some night time photography on any day where I feel like it. **Any ideas on good night photography spots around Yokohama?**

**Hakone: day 5-7**

Day 5: arrive, drop bag off at hostel, Sengokuhara grass fields, Chisuji falls, onsen.

Day 6: Owakudani, lake Ashi (cruise + explore area). Depending on the time, add Mt Hakone.

Will probably take the ropeway & cable car up from Gora station to Owakudani since it’s closer to my hostel. Going down on Togendai station side.

Day 7: Open air museum. **Hiking a (shorter) trail –> any suggestions?** Train to Ito afterwards.

**Ito: day 7-10**

Day 7: Drop of bag at hostel, explore area, relax & enjoy onsen.

Day 8: Jogasaki coast + Mt Omuro. **Anything else in that general area that’s interesting/off the beaten path?**

Day 9: Atami: town, Hashiriyu spring, Maboroshi Hakurankai.

Day 10: Train to Nikko (yes, it’s a long ride, leaving as early as possible).

**Nikko: day 10-12**

Day 10: arrive, drop off bag, explore Nikko town, onsen

Day 11: Okunikko (not decided on specifics yet)

Day 12: Relax at hostel onsen, morning walk around town & food, sightsee town if anything remains, train to Tokyo

**Tokyo: day 12-17**

Honestly, no real plan for Tokyo yet. I’ve been to Tokyo before and have visited most districts and sights already. I’m meeting a Japanese friend at least once, but not sure yet when and if it’ll be during the day or evening.
I’ll be staying in Asakusa.

Things on the Tokyo list: Imperial palace, Meiji Jingu, eat, drink, shop, Mt Mitake or Mt Takao day trip

Flight back in the morning of day 17.

I’ll be getting the Hakone Free pass, the Ito Tokai bus 2-day pass and the Nikko Worl Heritage Area pass. **Any other local passes you would recommend?**

Does this seem feasible? Anything you would add/remove?
