What is a good farewell gift to give to my coworkers?

So I am an ALT working at two schools and in a couple of weeks I will be leaving my current schools. I want to give the teachers a sort of farewell gift as I have been there for 4 years but I am not sure what kind of gifts would be good.

I was thinking some British snacks but again I am not sure what or where to get them in Japan that the teachers would enjoy. I am not too close with them (other than the ones I work with) but maybe I would like to write a little card or note which I would give to each of the teachers.

What do you think?

  1. This seems like a post about shopping, maybe your question is solved by [the wiki page](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/wiki/shopping)?

  2. A nice handkerchief with a heartfelt letter would be good for anyone. No allergies or anything of the sort to worry about.

  3. Go to the local rice farmer, buy an old 30kg sack of unpolished rice for 3000 yen, take it to a coin polisher 500 yen, split it into 2kg bags and hand them out.

    Everyone wants rice.

  4. Maybe some TimTams? Can find on Amazon, or a local import store.

But really, the actual gift is not as important as the gesture. Some of the local favorite (what folks visiting your area would get as omiyage) would be certainly fine.

Food or other consumables is always best as a general gift.
