Quick divorce?

Hi guys, I decided to divorce my Japanese wife.
Im originally from Poland and I wanted to do quick divorce in office.
Will my country accept this kind of divorce?
Or what if I will divorce here but my country won’t accept it?

  1. Countries don’t have any way to verify who is married in other countries. e.g. When you marry in Japan, you have to get a certificate of “no impediment to marriage” from your embassy but all the Embassy can do is ask you to sign an affidavit and swear that you are not married anywhere else. That is the limit of their investigative power.

Your best bet is to ask your Embassy about it. They will also have a list of lawyers in Japan who know Polish law (if any). Do you have to register the divorce in your home country? Probably not unless you registered your marriage there.

When you get divorced, it may be a good idea to take the certificate from the city office and get it translated and then get your Embassy to stamp it to verify it as correct translation.

Anyway, you are definitely not the first person to ask the embassy this question.

  2. Even if your country won’t recognize Japanese city hall divorce you still should be able to get the divorce through embassy. It will be proceed as regular administrative divorce but based on Japanese divorce papers so in the end you can get divorced legally in Poland as well.
