Anyone else been contacted by unknown numbers claiming to be recruiters on Whatsapp?
The first message was a very phishy “hello” but I have actually been trying to reach someone on Whatsapp, so asked who it was. Received following text:
“My name is Choki from Nippon Shigoto Japan. We’re assisting some companies recruiting few freelancers.
“𝖬𝖺𝗒 i 𝖺𝗌𝗌𝗂𝗀𝗇 𝖬𝗒 𝖯𝖨𝖢 𝗌𝖾𝗇𝖽 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝖿𝗎𝗅𝗅 𝖽𝖾𝗍𝖺𝗂𝗅𝗌 𝗍𝗈 𝗒𝗈𝗎𝗋 𝖶𝗁𝖺𝗍𝗌𝖺𝗉𝗉 𝖺𝗌 𝗋𝖾𝖿𝖾𝗋𝖾𝗇𝖼𝖾. 𝖲𝗈 𝗒𝗈𝗎 𝖼𝖺𝗇 𝖺 𝖻𝖾𝗍𝗍𝖾𝗋 𝗎𝗇𝖽𝖾𝗋𝗌𝗍𝖺𝗇𝖽𝗂𝗇𝗀 𝖺𝖻𝗈𝗎𝗍 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝗃𝗈𝖻. 𝖶𝗈𝗎𝗅𝖽 𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗍 𝖻𝖾 𝖿𝗂𝗇𝖾?”
They then sent a PDF claiming ¥7000 an hour PT but no details of job…
How concerned should I be? They clearly have my contact details, and know I’m a foreigner in Japan, but the numbers they used to contact me were (+44) so UK?

Anyone else had any unsolicited jobs on Whatsapp?
Any idea how could they have got my information and have I really messed up by replying?
I haven’t actually added them as contacts, and can still block, but I’m curious to know if this is a common recruitment tactic or just a scam. They don’t seem to know my name either. Just weird.

It’s a scam. It happens everywhere.
No one’s number is private, the moment you sign up for something, your phone number is sold off to marketing companies.
Then resold…. And resold.
You don’t need to be concerned, just block or ignore.

I get suddenly thrown into all kinds of Line groups about investing, recruiting…block and report as spam. Don’t engage, not even to tell them to fuck off.
I don’t wanna sound harsh, but you gotta be smarter than that. It’s so obvious this is a scam.
Yeah I had a creepy one with a Thai country code and fishy story the other day. They insisted on using English the whole time and ignored anything I wrote in Japanese, while claiming to be Japanese. I asked for proof and got a fishy fake business card with a man’s photo and a woman’s name.
I got same kinda message on whatsapp offering 600,000 per month, international based office, and working just 2-3 hrs per day😂😂. Reported and blocked
Got one with a Thailand number. 3/10 on the baitable scale for arguing with bots.
