Hi,
I am planing to build my own PC and component prices are much cheaper outside Japan (especially GPU).
As far as I know, Japan has no duty rates for electronics based on the link [here](https://www.customs.go.jp/english/c-answer_e/imtsukan/1204_e.htm).
However, when I check some retailers on US Amazon who ship to Japan, they add “Estimated Import Fees Deposit” to item price. What do they charge for and do they refund this?
I guess I might need to pay 10% consumption tax. Is that guaranteed (let’s say, custom office witholds my package until I pay for it)? Or they don’t botter unless I am “lucky”?
Any experience?

8-10% case by case. Own experience.
Haven’t ordered any parts from the US but depending on parts and shipping costs and the current exchange rate, parts from US end up priced roughly the same as in Japan (at least on Amazon).
For example, a 4070ti:
[Japan](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/GeForce-RTX-4070-VENTUS-12G/dp/B0BNWFM7MZ/ref=sr_1_5?crid=14C4W45DHVP61&keywords=4070ti&qid=1688258603&sprefix=4070%2Caps%2C375&sr=8-5) JPY128,000
[USA](https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GeForce-RTX-4070-12G/dp/B0BNWFM7MZ) USD 916 or JPY 132,000 (with shipping and deposit for customs).
Another thing to take into account is warranty and if they will honor locally or if you have to ship back to US (either Amazon or manufacturer side).
It used to be cheaper to order from the US but with the weak Yen, you’ll end paying about the same or even a bit less if buy locally. And obviously, there is the risk of damage during shipping, or problems in case of RMA.
I built by own PC around November 2020. I already had a video card that I had purchased off of eBay (not a gaming card because it’s a CAD workstation). I had never built before so I got some help from a friend on specs and parts for the rest, then bought everything from several different vendors. I think in the end I ended up buying most of my parts from the US as at that time even with shipping it was slightly cheaper. Power supply and case I bought from Japan.
