Hello
I am hoping for a set of eyes on a road trip I am planning in the Hakone/Izu region in September/October.
This road trip is only a portion of a 10-week trip so we are fortunate to have time on our side.
As a background we are a couple travelling with an infant and are used to long distance and driving in pretty much any conditions. Though public transport is fantastic we think that a car would be ideal given our luggage and getting bub on and off trains/buses.
For whatever reason I am particularly interested in the Izu area, it seems laid back and after Tokyo it will be nice to drift along a coastline.
**Day One – Tokyo – Odawara**
• Pick up car.
• Hakone Open Air Museum
• Okada Museum of Art
• Enjoy accommodation
**Day Two – The Circuit**
• Ropeway
• Cruise
• Hakone Checkpoint
• Hakone Shrine
**Day Three -**
• Pola Museum
• Ashinoko Skyline
Has anyone done the Skyline? Worth it?
From here I am a little torn. I was thinking of a day trip to Five Lakes, Mt Fuji won’t have snow cover and there is a fare chance visibility will be poor. Alternatively, I invest more time in Izu.
**Day Four – Lake Kawaguchi**
• Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine
• Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine
• Mt Fuji Panoramic Ropeway
• Kubota Itchiku Art Museum
• Take a walk on the Westside of the lake.
**Day Five – Ito**
• Enoura Observatory
• Jogasaki Coast
• Mt Omuro
**Day Six & Seven – Shimoda Area**
• Kawazu Seven Waterfall.
• Explore surrounding beaches.
**Day Eight – Matsuzaki**
• Explore the Dogashima coast
**Day Nine – Shuzenji**
• West Izu Skyline
• Stay in a Ryoken and enjoy onsen.
**Day Ten – Odawara**
• Off to Kyoto.
Well, that’s it for now, the itinerary is a lot longer than I thought it would be, I initially was thinking seven full days for both Hakone and Izu (no five lakes). Maybe a little consolidation required.
Any feedback or comments would be welcome.
Thanks heaps!!
