Definitely not a common type of cake in Japan. Might be faster to just make it yourself
> Why it is so hard to find red velvet cake in here?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that it’s hard to find in Japan because it’s – and hear me out on this – not popular in Japan?
iki espresso in Kiyosumi Shirakawa in Tokyo has it and its awesome
moja in the house in shibuya has some but it’s pretty mid
There’s a small diner-type place in Fukasawa, Setagaya-ku, near Jiyugaoka, that has amazing pies and they occasionally make red velvet cake. It’s called, Down Home”. Run by an American gent and Japanese his wife. https://www.downhome.jp/
Asking the real questions 🤣
It’s just chocolate cake with red food coloring. I would have expected it to taste like cherry.
If it’s not bland chiffon cake with the same whipped cream thats on everything else, it’s going to be difficult to get unless you can find a bakery that sells foreign styles of sweets. Even then it’s a crapshoot.
This is a diy situation, tbh.
plenty of them if you google translated this and go to expensive cake shops in ginza department store
It may only be common where you’re from, as I love a bit of cake and have never heard of it. Is it easy to make yourself?
They sell it in RHC Cafe in Markis Minatomirai (Yokohama).
Man….me and my wife used to tear that up at Magnolia Bakery in Omotesando back in the day. Wonder if it’s still around
Lola’s Cupcakes in Harajuku has a red velvet cupcake as well as a red velvet cupcake milkshake (essentially a milkshake with a cupcake blended into it, delish).
I’ve lived here a few decades and never heard of it. What is it?
Sorry. I really need to know. What does “fandoms it” mean?
California Pizza Kitchen had it
Order it at the local cake shop. One near where I live will just about make any cake if you order it a few days before!
You can see good threads about this in the Gaijineats FB group. There are a few places that have the cupcakes. And a couple of restaurants including Soul Food I think offers red velvet. It’s not the same exactly as chocolate cake so I understand your craving! I’ve made it myself…not so difficult, even for me, a non baker lol.
Why is it so hard to find a pure American (uninteresting) cake in Japan? Let me double check…
As a person that grew up in an environment where red velvet cake was a thing that was readily available, I have no idea why you’d have a craving for it.
Ive honestly forgotten the existence of RVC up until right now. Isn’t it just red colored cake? What is there to crave?
It might not be Japanese food.
I had never even hear if you’d, but a quick Google search does lots, f.e.

It seems there are shops that do deliver them? I just googled them so I’ve no idea if it’s any good or not, but here you go:

I love red velvet cake, and am pretty good at baking it, too. The request seems to pop up at least once a year, and I take commissions for a set of 6 red velvet cupcakes, but I’m in Osaka.
