Hello! Here’s my itinerary for my trip next year.
Any advice on things to do/things to skip? I’ve got a trip to the zoo scheduled, but will I just be sad about the animal welfare?
Thanks in advance 🙂

i really advise against going to arashiyama for the bamboo grove, then go to kinkakuji and then to nara
arashiyama is a half day, and you can spend a whole day or two without seeing anything twice. the bamboo grove will be 10 minutes
kinkakuji takes about an hour to get there. there is more to do in the area, but many people dont, so thats normal. but still, its 2.5h to get there, see kinkakuji (0.5h) and get back
getting to nara takes time. and being in nara can be done in half a day
if you still NEED to pull this off, head to the bamboo grove so you are there at like 7am, then head to kinkakuji so you are there when it opens at like 9am, then head to nara at like 10.30
i would much rather take a day in higashiyama
and seeing you are in japan 21 days, you spend a good percentage of time in tokyo and osaka, which is both “big city vibe”
how about splitting it 10 days tokyo and 10 days kyoto with some day trips to hiroshima and if you need to osaka?
FYI on Hokkaido, if you’re expecting cherry blossoms they won’t have bloomed yet by those dates. Peak season will be late April to May. Same deal for the lavender fields, lavender season is July to August.
I believe March is considered the last month for the ski season in Hokkaido so pack appropriately.
I highly recommend Miyajima instead of Hiroshima but especially If you can stay overnight. Most magical place we’ve been to I think.
