Trip Report: Fukuoka to Tokyo – June/July

Itinerary with only a backpack:

June 10-14 Fukuoka

June 14-17 Beppu

June 17-19 Hiroshima/Itsukushima(Miyajima)

June 19-22 Osaka

June 22-23 Koyasan

June 23-27 Kyoto

June 27-30 Lake Yamanakako

June 30-7 Tokyo

I want to leave this quite open ended, as I would prefer to answer questions. I also didnt plan any hostels (except for Fukuoka and Tokyo) ahead of time since I’m a horrible planner. I will edit to add places I visited that aren’t the typical places suggested.

Budget: unlimited, so please don’t ask me about budget, but you may ask me about specific prices.

Route: I came from Korea on a ferry and left through HND airport.

JR Pass: I bought the 21 day pass and it wasn’t worth it as I didn’t get my money’s worth.

Weather: I got so lucky with the weather. The only place where the weather was hit or miss was Tokyo. Even then, an umbrella was very helpful through it all. I also wore tevas the entire time, so I never worried about having to wait for my shoes to dry.

  1. Why did you choose a ferry from Korea instead of a flight? I’m currently debating on a ferry vs. a flight to Busan from Fukuoka when I’m there next spring. They both seem to be similar price (~100$)

  2. What did you do in fukuoka? I’m looking at it for my next trip.

How was Koyasan? Interested for the same reason.
