Itinerary check – Izu

Hi guys, I’m heading to Izu Japan for 4D3N Or 3D2N in December with a travelling group size of 9 people. Here’s what I have planned so far, but I can’t decide between the 3D2N plan or 4D3N plan.

Plan B: 4D3N (with train and public transport)

Day 1 –
12:00 – 13:30 Train from Tokyo – Ito
13:30 – 15:30 Check in & Settle down
(K’s house Itō Onsen)
15:30 – night: walk in Ito and visit the beach

Day 2 –
10:00 – 12:00 Mt Omuro
12:00 – 14:00 Lunch
14:00 – 19:00 Explore Izu kogen
19:00 – Return to Ito

Day 3 –
08:00 – 10:00 travel from Itō to shimoda
10:00 – 12:00 Cape Irozaki
12:30 – 14:00 Lunch
14:30 – 17:00 Ryugu Sea Cave
18:00 – 19:30 Dinner
19:30 Return to Itō

Day 4 –
08:00 Leave Ito for the airport

I can’t decide between the two. I am afraid that Plan A might be too rushed. On the other hand, for plan B, I don’t want to be held down by bus timings and what not. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

  1. I did something similar a few years ago and actually stayed at the same ryokan. I would give yourself a little more time and go with Plan B. You can easily spend more time than what you have allowed right now for sightseeing so having that extra wiggle room makes it more relaxing. Hope this helps

  2. Plan A feels rushed, especially with 9 people, as Izu is mostly a relaxation destination… and I hope the lunch place you choose does have enough space to accomodate 9 at once, as usually after 3pm some lunch won’t be even served.

  3. Mt omuro is ok. U can skip it if u want. Highlights of izu is really the ryokan stay by the sea. I drove when I was there. U really have to drive or it’s so inconvenient. Izu is great cause u can easily reach there from Tokyo. I did not think much of the sights or the restaurants I tried when I was there.
I visited the dolphins though. It’s near the station.

  4. I used to live in Shimoda/Minami Izu 20 years ago so its always great to see people make the journey there. It’s definitely a slow relaxed pace of life compared to Tokyo; though IIRC, we held a rave in one of those Shimoda sea caves. Natsukashii
