Oh man, literally anything. Talk about something good you ate, cute you saw, a good song you heard. The topic isn’t always as important as just reaching out and showing that you’re thinking of them. That goes for anyone!
Find out what his interests are. Ask him for his favorite anime and then watch it. Find out if he has a favorie sports team and try to learn a bit about it. If he likes board games, try some out. Guys love to talk about their passions, and they especially love when they can get more people into their passions. Even if you’re not into everything he likes, give it a shot and then try again with a new thing. There will be some overlap eventually (if not, I recommend reconsidering the relationship). It will make you miles more attractive if you’re recipicle to his interests and will be great material for conversations
It’s best to start with something light. Why not ask him whether he prefers Utilitarianism as posed by Jeremy Bentham or John Stuart Mill and see where things go from there?

Be yourself and talk about what you are interested in and what he may be interested in. You are trying to figure out how you mesh together, all you can do is be genuine. I found my wife in Japan by being me, and she, thankfully, looked past all the red flags I kept displaying and saw the real me. If I had faked how I am, I don’t think we would have lasted all these years. You need someone who appreciates you…not some made up, Reddit approved talking points of you.
