I know this is going to sound stupid but I just want peoples opinions.
For background I am a 24 year old American. Back in college I found my love of Japan visited twice and knew it was the place I wanted to live. I started planning, the goal was to do a 5th year of college as a study abroad at Waseda so I could use the university name to open doors for me after Uni to live in Japan. Then if I couldn’t line up a job while at Waseda, return home and do the JET program. COVID ruined that plan and now I have graduated and applied for the JET Program twice. Last year no interview this year waitlisted. I have also been applying to jobs in Japan that are sponsoring visas, but that has not been fruitful either.
My question is how dumb would it be to apply to Waseda to do the SILS program. I could save up till April probably have 10k saved by then and apply to as many scholarships as possible. A second bachelors degree sounds silly, but I want to live in Japan and a Waseda degree will help get me jobs. The 4 year program will also help my Japanese skills. I know most of you will say it is dumb, but honestly it sounds like a fun experience. My University experience was ruined by COVID I went to a community college then went to a big University and didn’t get to have the college life which I won’t lie was a big disappointment. If I enjoy it and don’t go into debt whats the harm, I understand in that time I could be earning money, but I hate living in America and Japans my goal so whats the point of having money and hating my life in America.
