I’m a woman in her early twenties living in Japan right now.
So, I have no friends or an SO.
But I want to make the best of my long breaks as a university student before I start working next April.
Going to those huge music festivals or a concert of a big band sounds good too, but I’m interested in a more underground or obscure atmosphere. I don’t know, I’ve never been somewhere like that but it sounds so cool, and in my imagination, better for meeting new people even if you’re there alone.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Preferably in Kansai, but that may be asking for too much.
Or, tell me an alternative cool way to spend time alone in Japan and hopefully meet new people, thanks:)

I don’t know about the music scene in Kansai, but look in to doing volunteer work. Your local government office should have information about volunteer groups.
Osaka is more punk than Tokyo in a lot of ways. You can try [https://hardcore-days.xyz/](https://hardcore-days.xyz/) to start. There are tons of shows there. You can still get tickets for FujiRock tomorrow. Link Bandsintown with Spotify, etc. Follow some music venues on Instagram. Maybe try Bumble BFF mode to meet people that don’t just want to fuck, but be friends. There are raves at Buddhist temples and all over. The music scene is actually quite good here.
I’ve made friends with a lot of musicians in Tokyo and learned about a lot of great venues, and it basically started by talking with street musicians.
Often times they’ll be promoting an upcoming show. Grab their business card or talk with them between songs and check out their SNS page for details. From there it’s easy to meet people at the shows.
