Very small question about leaves

Hello all. My wife recently made a friend from Japan, who’s been occasionally teaching her the odd Japanese word.

Yesterday the word was for leaf: 葉っぱ. But I’ve only ever heard 葉 for leaf. Is there a difference?

  1. 葉っぱis also useful when there is a risk of confusion with other “ha” words. Though context will usually make it clear, feather and tooth are also “ha”
